I went away for two full weeks and enjoyed (almost) every minute of it. I was previously unfamiliar with snakes, so I was terrified upon discovering them in the lake that all of the campers enjoyed swimming in. I had never encountered a cricket before my sleep-away camp stay either. I discovered one in my cubbyhole on the day I was packing to return home.
When you were a youngster, did you go to summer camp? Did you go to more of a day camp or sleep-away camp? I attended sleep-away camp for the first time at about the age of 10. I was so excited to pack my duffel bag with summer clothes, pajamas, bathing suit, towels, and of course bug repellant.
While many campers quickly made new friends and enjoyed all the new moments, many experienced bouts of being home sick. I soaked it all up and enjoyed the unexpected adventures of living in a cabin with no electricity and being in the great outdoors. The camp was located in upstate New York in an area called Fishkill. Fishkill, New York is absolutely beautiful in the summer. Complete with low humidity, fresh air, gorgeous sunshine and with wonderful warm breezes during the day.
I was happily away from the city life that I knew and didn’t long to be home any sooner than absolutely required. I even milked a cow for the first time. It actually felt somewhat weird. I was surprised to discover the milk came out warm and with a distinct smell. I don’t think I’ve ever quite looked at milk the same since.
If you are looking for a bit of fitness adventure this summer then I highly recommend this summer (boot) camp workout for glutes, abs, agility and fat burning. Be adventurous and take on the challenge of experiencing (adult) summer camp on a completely new level. Enjoy the wonderful results you will achieve in just a few short weeks. You don’t even have to worry about packing a duffel bag or becoming home sick.
Enjoy!
